I’m Anna Schübel,  an interdisciplinary artist and musician based in Munich and Berlin. My practice spans sound, sculpture, and spatial interventions.
I explore sound as a multifaceted artistic medium in relation to individual bodily perception and spatial experimentation. A key focus of my work is the development of immersive sonic environments to investigate how resonant spaces interact with architecture, technology, and the human body.
My work has been shown at, among others, the ERES Foundation in Munich, the Museum Brandhorst, the Lenbachhaus Munich, the Haus der Kulturen der Welt in Berlin, the Staatliche Kunsthalle Baden-Baden, and Phileas Vienna

Sonic Fields
Inflatables, sittable sound sculpture | Public space Nuremberg, Cultural Project Office City of Nuremberg | 2024

Sonic Fields is a site-specific installation inhabiting the interior of the air-supported structure by raumlabor Berlin. Transparent, island-like inflatables are distributed throughout the space and function as resonant bodies within an expansive multichannel sound scenography, set into vibration by a spatial composition that makes sound physically perceptible. Reflecting fragments of their surroundings, the installation transforms local sounds and field recordings into an immersive sonic landscape that explores possible acoustic realities, inviting visitors to engage in a playful collective experience.

Bow (Resonating Bodies)

TACKER | Galerie der Künstler*innen | 2025

Bow (Resonating Bodies) unfolds as an expansive spatial setting between sound, architecture, and the body. A site-specifically developed steel tube arch formally references the surrounding architecture and serves as a supporting structure for directional speakers that project sound into the space, creating acoustic islands and shifting reflections, while a walkable mirrored floor element integrates visitors through reflection and transmits low-frequency vibrations directly to their bodies.

The World Softly Lulls

Debütant*innen | ERES Foundation Munich | 2024

The World Softly Lulls is an immersive multichannel sound installation exploring the materiality of the Earth and the limits of human perception. Drawing on global seismological recordings, it transforms inaudible tectonic vibrations into sensorial sonic experiences through sonification. By recontextualizing scientific data/sonification, the work turns bodies into sensors and space into an instrument, rendering deep time audible in the present.

Three Steps In Time

Performance | Site specific intervention | Dianatempel, Hofgarten Munich | 2024
Three Steps in Time explores perceptions of space and temporality at the intersection of sound art and electroacoustic musical interpretation. Field recordings and biological rhythms are transformed into an immersive multichannel sound and light installation presented at the Dianatempel in Munich’s Hofgarten, accompanied by a live performance. Using geophones embedded in the ground and hydrophones placed in nearby fountains, the work transmits and processes environmental sounds in real time, merging different temporal layers through resonance and material transmission.

Concept, Composition, Performance: Anna Schübel | Cello: Clara Dietze | This project was funded by the Gerhard-Müller-Rischart Memorial Award of the Rotary Club Munich Bogenhausen in cooperation with Akademieverein Munich, NEUE WELTEN art award.

Transmissions

Site specific intervention | 2024 | Ongoing series
Transmissions uses existing architectural elements and site-specific sculptural objects as resonant surfaces. Integrated tactile transducers turn these objects into sound bodies that capture electromagnetic frequencies and make them audible through contact speakers. In this way, invisible surrounding signals become perceptible in their own musical qualities, transforming the space itself into a transmitter, resonator, and co-performer.

Performances (selection)
Site Visit, interweave

Museum Brandhorst Munich | Radio 80000 | 2022

Site Visit took place in March 2022 in the Patio, located in the basement of the Museum Brandhorst. The participating artists employed a range of media, from painting and sculpture to performance and electronic formats. In different ways, the works engaged with the institutional space as a model—either by incorporating and working with its architecture or by distancing themselves from it and creating points of friction.
